Relive the greatest matches of the RWC past.

The third World Cup was, for many, an emotional event with the return of South Africa to the world rugby stage as victorious host nation.

The Springboks proved they hadn’t lost their touch – beating the defending champions, Australia, in the opening match and going on to win a thrilling extra-time victory against New Zealand in the final.

England and France provided the main challenge but despite a quarter-final victory over Australia, the English were no match for the All Blacks. Meanwhile France claimed they were as much beaten by the South African weather as by the Springboks in the other semi-final.

Wales had recovered from their 1991 despair, but despite victory over Japan  heavy defeats at the hands of Ireland and the All Blacks ensured another early exit.

And no one will forget Nelson Mandela with Francois Pienaar's Number 6 Jersey, standing on the podium next to Pienaar himself, holding the trophy.
