Rugby World Cup will add a festival of the boot to the Adelaide event season when two games of Pool A are played over the weekend of 25 - 26 October.

South Australian rugby fans will venture to Adelaide Oval on the Saturday where the host nation plays Match Three in Pool A against Namibia.

The 15:30 start allows Jazz buffs time to catch the tunes of the 7th Glenelg Jazz Festival (24 - 26 October) on the foreshore at Glenelg.

Last year's festival featured the strongest international line-up in the history of the event and the 2003 program is shaping up to be bigger and better.

On the Sunday, from 18:00, Argentina and Ireland play what shapes up as the defining fixture of the pool, the winner a likely quarter finalist. Post match, the Jazz festival continues to swing for those seeking celebration or commiseration.

In another test of excellence 40 national and international teams contesting the World Solar Challenge leave Darwin in the Northern Territory on 19 October, their unique solar powered cars expected to finish 3000km later in Adelaide over the weekend of Rugby World Cup.

Adelaide's annual lesbian and gay cultural festival, Feast, is on from 17 October - 9 November.

For those Rugby buffs looking for a culinary adventure to whet the appetite, Adelaide's biennial food and wine extravaganza, Tasting Australia, might satisfy from 3 - 12 October.

Literary appetites are also catered for with a writers' festival and chefs' showcase featuring some of the best chefs from around Australia and the world.

Adelaide offers diverse cures for those left behind once the Rugby World Cup caravan moves on. Sports lovers can take in the equine splendour of the Adelaide International Horse Trials, one of four Olympic qualifying rounds, in the Adelaide parklands from 6 - 9 November.

For those interested in local history, The Adelaide Christmas Pageant celebrates 70 years in 2003, heralding the start of the Christmas season with more than 1,000 costumed characters, 50 floats, bands and marching troupes on 8 November.
