Canberra Stadium

Canberra

Canberra Stadium has a seating capacity of 25,000, almost a fifth of which is undercover in two stands, with every one of those seats being no more than 50 metres from the rectangular pitch to ensure the spectators feel part of the occasion.

Only a 10-minute drive or bus ride from the city centre, located as it is off Battye Street in the northwest suburb of Bruce, Canberra Stadium boasts the Australian Institute of Sport as its close neighbour.

Canberra Stadium, formerly known as Bruce Stadium, was built for the Pacific Conference Games in 1977 with only an 8,000 seating capacity, although this was increased to 11,500 in preparation for the World Cup Athletics Games in 1985.

Twelve years later Canberra Stadium, the home of the Canberra Raiders Rugby League team and the ACT Brumbies Super 12 outfit, underwent its final facelift after being awarded the preliminary rounds of the Olympics Games football competition.

Canberra Stadium will stage four matches at Rugby World Cup 2003 involving Pool D teams Wales, Italy, Canada and Tonga. The first of these will be on 15 October between Tonga and Italy, who play three games in Canberra.

How to get there:

A 25-minute drive from Canberra International Airport, Canberra Stadium is well serviced by ACTION Buses with their route 80 taking you from the centre of the national capital to the venue itself.

Canberra Stadium also has more than 4,000 car parking spaces within walking distance of both the East and West entrances, with taxi ranks located on the East side of the stadium and in front of the AIS Indoor Arena.
