The Central Coast Stadium hosted the Australia ‘A’ match against the British and Irish Lions in June 2001. Formerly the North Power Stadium, the 20,000 all-seat venue will host three Rugby World Cup 2003 matches, the first Ireland against Romania on 11 October. Pool A rivals Argentina and Namibia take the field three days later on October 14.
Japan and the United States also play their Pool B encounter at the Central Coast Stadium, which is due to hold the final round of the Supercross Masters motocross in November.
One of four venues in New South Wales to stage matches during Rugby World Cup 2003, the Central Coast Stadium in Gosford has had more than half a million spectators pass through its gates since the February 2000 opening.
Built on the site of Grahame Park at a cost of $30 million, the multi-purpose stadium overlooks the Brisbane Waters and hosts rugby union, rugby league, football and boxing events among others.
How to get there:
Central Coast Stadium is only 300 metres from Gosford train station, which is on the Newcastle and Central Coast Line. Trains depart from Sydney’s Central station every half hour with the travel time one hour and 15 minutes to Gosford.
There are four car parks within walking distance of the stadium, including Baker Street and Adcock Park, with the journey from Sydney to Gosford via the F3 taking around one and a half hours by road.
