Launceston

Launceston Airport has direct flights from Melbourne and Sydney, which take around one and two hours respectively. An alternative is to fly from these two to Hobart, although you will have to hire a car to drive north to Launceston.

Another method of travel is the ferry with the Spirit of Tasmania sailing from Sydney and Melbourne to Devonport, less than an hour’s drive from Launceston.

Sydney to Devonport is a 1500-1130 crossing on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with the Melbourne route operating daily, departing at 2100 and arriving at 0700 the following day. Day crossing are available during the peak summer season.
