The largest stadium in Western Australia with a capacity of 43,000, Subiaco Oval is a relatively new rugby union venue, having staged its first Test in July 1998 with the Tri Nations clash between Australia and South Africa.
Subiaco Oval was built in 1908, when it was known as Mueller Park, but has undergone several upgrades since then with new stands appearing around the ground in 1969, 1981 and 1995.
The most recent development in 1999 saw a new two-tier stand built on the eastern side, connecting the ANZ and Members stands. The work, which came at a cost of $35 million, converted the ground into an all-seater stadium.
Normally used for Australian Rules Football, Subiaco Oval is home to the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers, together with Western Australian Football League outfit Subiaco FC.
The stadium will stage five Rugby World Cup 2003 matches, all of them from Pool C and within the first 10 days of the tournament. The first match will be South Africa against Uruguay on 11 October with England, Samoa and Georgia also playing there.
How to get there:
Located to the west of Perth, Subiaco Oval is well serviced by trains and buses, with additional services on Rugby World Cup 2003 match days.
The nearest train stations are West Leederville and Subiaco, both of which are on the Fremantle line, with journeys taking five minutes from Perth and 15 minutes from Fremantle. Subiaco Oval, on Roberts Road, is then a five-minute walk away.
Transperth buses, which run from 6am to 11.30pm with reduced services on weekends and holidays, stop outside the Subiaco Oval. Alternatively car parking is available at Mueller Park, a few minutes walk away.
