Only four Rugby World Cup 2003 host cities have direct flights into Perth Airport with Adelaide three hours away, Melbourne and Sydney four hours and Brisbane just over six hours. From Canberra and Launceston you have to fly into Sydney first.
Likewise only Adelaide and Sydney have direct trains, the twice-weekly Indian Pacific taking two and three days respectively. To reach Perth from Melbourne you change at Adelaide and for all other host cities at Sydney.
With Perth the only host city in Western Australia, Adelaide boasts the shortest journey time by road at just under 40 hours with Townsville the longest at four days.
