David CLARK (CAN) - coach
On team selection:
"We were misrepresented in the press this week. I never said we'd put in a second string side. This was not a second string side. We picked this team for its defensive qualities and toughness."
On how his side performed against the Rugby World Cup 2003 favourites:
Mr Mitchell (NZL coach) paid us a compliment at the end of the game by putting on Doug Howlett who is probably the fastest man in world rugby, except for that Fijian winger who is so quick they can't remember his name."
On whether NZL has it to be 2003 RWC champions:
"They will be champs. They've got the power up front. (Carlos) Spencer is playing a good game. When we shut them down on the outside they came through the middle."
Ryan BANKS (CAN) - captain
On whether NZL is playing to its full potential:
"They're not showing their full repertoire yet. They're keeping a few cards in the deck. When they come up against better opposition, they'll be the better side."
On the game:
“Obviously our guys went out there knowing we were going to be in for a real tough match but we showed a lot of heart.”
“We got tired and they had too much pace on the outside and that’s what makes them one of the best teams in the world.”
“We were happy to shut them down in the mid field and we did a lot of good things tonight that were positive for us.”
Reuben THORNE (NZL) - captain
On New Zealand’s performance:
"It was pretty frustrating at times, a lot of mistakes out there. You have got to give credit to Canada, they really defended terrifically."
On the Canadians
"They were physical tonight and we expect exactly the same from Tonga next week."
Jeff REID (CAN) - number 8
On playing the All Blacks:
“It’s always a dream to play against the best sporting teams in the world and in rugby, that’s the All Blacks.”
John MITCHELL (NZL) – coach
On Canada’s performance:
“They tackled their hearts out. We lacked a bit of rhythm.”
On New Zealand’s injuries:
“After our injury toll we need to look at who’s on board on Monday.”
“Joe (Rokocoko) was training this morning (Friday), so he’s doing very well.”
“Tana (Umaga) went to cycle classes this morning (Friday), so he’s doing very well.”
Corey FLYNN (NZL) – hooker
On his test debut:
“It was everything I expected it to be. I still have the jersey on under my jacket and you’ll struggle to get it off me.”
