AUS 90 v ROM 8: What they said

19/10/2003

Eddie JONES (AUS) - coach

"It was always going to be one of those difficult games where you're expected to win and the score probably flattered us a little in the end. We're certainly satisfied with what we've done but we've got space for improvement. We weren't interested in cricket scores, we weren't interested in records ... I couldn't tell you how many tries we scored. You maximise what you can get out of the game."

On Gregan’s injury:

"He's got a corked thigh ... not too serious, but serious enough to take him out of next week."

On Matt GITEAU replacing George GREGAN at half-time:

"He's played a few Tests now at 9 (scrum-half), 10 (fly-half), and 12 (inside centre) which is a pretty fair repertoire and he did well."

Mat ROGERS (AUS) - Fullback

"It was an enjoyable game ... I was a bit disappointed with my handling. I put a few balls down."

Bernard CHARREYRE (ROM) - coach

"We were very disappointed with the end result. We did play with Ireland, but with Romania, we are not a professional team, and it is hard to compete with Australia. Romania didn't play at the right level. This is not our level."

On playing at Suncorp Stadium:

"It's a bit overwhelming for the Romanian team to play against Australia when they have 50,000 supporters in the stadium."

Romeo GONTINEAC (capt):

"We are a bit low tonight but this is not the real value (worth) of the Romanian team. As from tonight we are going to concentrate on our next match (against Argentina in Sydney, 22 October) and next time we are going to play as players, not as spectators. It's time to wake up and play a good game."
