Scotland manager Dougie Morgan is confident the team can bounce back from the disappointment of their record Rugby World Cup defeat by France and beat Fiji at Aussie Stadium in Sydney on Saturday to secure the remaining quarter final berth from Pool B.
“Obviously we were bitterly disappointed immediately after the game…but on Sunday Scottish supporters came down for a barbecue and that changed the atmosphere,” explained Morgan.
“We were disappointed with our performance against Japan but we did win the game and get a bonus point. Similarly I think our performance against the United States was better than we did against Japan and again we won and got the bonus point.
“That’s what we were looking for obviously in the first two games. We’ve had knockbacks before and I think we will come back.”
Favourites tag means nothing
Morgan was not bothered by reports of Fiji believing they are favourites for this game and put their 51-9 defeat by France at Telstra Stadium in Sydney last Saturday down to their opponents being too good and not Scotland freezing on the big occasion.
“It doesn’t really matter who the favourite is, the bottom line for both sides is that it is a knockout match,” Morgan insisted.
“I would like to think that they didn't [freeze]. All of the players that we had out on Saturday against France were experienced players in some way or another.
“I wouldn’t necessarily say that they froze, I just think that they were beaten by a better side on Saturday.”
