Jason White is the only change in Scotland's starting XV to face Australia

White only change for Scotland

06/11/2003

Scotland have made one tactical change to their pack for their quarter final against defending champions Australia at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Saturday.

Jason White has been preferred to Ross Beattie at flanker, coach Ian McGeechan making the switch because of White's ball carrying ability and the balance he brings to the back row.

White impressed after coming on as a replacement when Scotland came from behind to break Fijian hearts with a 22-20 victory to clinch second spot in Pool B and advance to the quarter finals.

Beattie drops out of the 22 man squad completely, with lock Scott Murray, who was himself dropped for the Fiji match, taking the place on the bench vacated by White's promotion to the starting XV.

The influential Simon Taylor is named at number 8, having recovered earlier than expected from the swollen knee he suffered against Fiji as a result of a few dips in a very icy pool.

Scotland: 1. Tom Smith 2. Gordon Bulloch 3. Bruce Douglas 4. Nathan Hines 5. Stuart Grimes 6. Jason White 7. Simon Taylor 8. Cameron Mather 9. Bryan Redpath (captain) 10. Chris Paterson 11. Kenny Logan 12. Andrew Henderson 13. Gregor Townsend 14. Simon Danielli 15. Glenn Metcalfe

Replacements: 16. Rob Russell 17. Gordon McIlwham 18. Scott Murray 19. Jon Petrie 20. Michael Blair 21. James McLaren 22. Ben Hinshelwood.
