A place in the Rugby World Cup final is not the only thing at stake on Saturday when Australia and New Zealand lock horns with both teams currently on winning streaks in double figures.
Australia's 33-16 defeat of Scotland in their Brisbane quarter final on Saturday was their 11th consecutive Rugby World Cup victory, taking them clear of New Zealand and South Africa on 10.
The Wallabies last tasted defeat in the quarter finals of Rugby World Cup 1995, the 25-22 loss to England in Cape Town being the only time Australia have failed to reach at least the semi finals.
In this period Australia have posted victories over Romania (twice), Ireland (twice), the USA Eagles, Wales, South Africa, France, Argentina, Namibia and Scotland.
South Africa's run was ended by the Wallabies in the 1999 semi final, the Springboks' first defeat - 28-21 after extra time - in the Tournament since their victorious debut on home soil four years previously.
The 10 consecutive victories of New Zealand ran from the first ever Rugby World Cup match against Italy on 22 May 1987 until, once more, Australia ended it with a 16-6 victory in their 1991 semi final.
Test match streaks
New Zealand's 29-9 defeat of South Africa, their first Rugby World Cup success against the Springboks, in Melbourne on Saturday was also their 11th consecutive victory in Test match rugby.
The All Blacks last tasted defeat against a touring England in June, since when they have beaten Wales (twice), France, Australia (twice), South Africa (three times), Italy, Canada and Tonga.
This run is only the ninth time in Test match history that a country has won 11 or more consecutive games, four of these being by New Zealand including their record equalling 17 victories between 18 September 1965 and 14 June 1969.
Ironically it was South Africa who beat them that day because the Springboks earned a share of this record with their unbeaten run between 23 August 1997 and their defeat by England on 28 November 1998. South Africa also won 15 matches between 8 October 1994 and 2 July 1996.
The best recent winning streak is held by England with 14 straight victories between 23 March 2002 and their Rugby World Cup warm up defeat by France on 23 August 2003. By contrast the oldest is Wales' 11 matches between 9 March 1907 and 1 January 1910.
Who will leave Telstra Stadium with their unbeaten run intact?
