Paterson switched to 10 to play Fiji

29/10/2003

Scotland wing Chris Paterson has been named at fly half for Scotland in their Pool B quarter Final berth showdown against Fiji on Saturday 1 November at Aussie Stadium.

Paterson is one of six changes - two positional - that Scotland coach Ian McGeechan has made to the starting line up that was beaten convincingly by France 51-9 in Sydney last Saturday.

There are four new faces in the side, prop Bruce Douglas, lock Nathan Hines, blindside flanker Ross Beattie and winger Simon Danielli.

Veteran Gregor Townsend, fly half last week against France, moves to the centre to accommodate Paterson's move from the wing.

"We just wanted to put two playmakers on the field," said McGeechan, explaining why he made the switch.

Lock Scott Murray is the biggest name to be dropped for the match. McGeechan said the loss of form of the Edinburgh forward and also the need "to balance the pack" were his reasons.
