CAN 24 TON 7: What they said

29/10/2003

Canada wing Winston Stanley

On overcoming Tongan aggression:

"Tonga really took it to us in the first half and we were lucky to escape. It's a great way to end the Tournament."

On Canada's tries:

"Huge lift to score out wide, pretty rare and a great feeling for the team."

On Al Charron's being carried off injured on a stretcher:

"We just tried to push it (Charron's injury) to the back of our mind. Al was clearly in a lot of pain. We feel bad for him; he is the greatest leader and the greatest guy. We just said '10 more minutes for Al'."

Canada hooker Mark Lawson

On the match:

"We were definitely kicking lots and it was one of the most physical games I've ever played, the guys were really athletic. It was huge. No one wanted to go home without a win."

Tonga captain Inoke Afeaki

On the match:

"We played really really well. We played running rugby, which was our style of rugby, but we missed the finesse and maybe finesse is something that comes with being well rested."

"If we'd been well rested the passes might have stuck and there would've been more tries."
