England fullback Josh Lewsey scored five tries in the victory over Uruguay

ENG 111 URU 13: What they said

02/11/2003

Clive WOODWARD (ENG) - Coach

"Very satisfied. It has been a difficult week for the team. Well done to Uruguay. It was tough for them after backing up from Tuesday. I wasn't glad they scored a try, but in a way I was."

On the injury to wing Iain BALSHAW:

"It's a minor sprain to the ankle. He says he's okay and he's walking around on it."

Phil VICKERY (ENG) - Captain

"It was tough for the forwards, we always knew that. Uruguay have earned the respect of a lot of teams in this World Cup with the passion and pride that they show when they put their jersey on."
Andy GOMARSALL (ENG) - Scrumhalf

"It was a fantastic atmosphere and just unreal. I said to myself this is why I play the game, for the atmosphere."

Daniel HERRERA (URU) - Team Manager

"I think that the crowd today valued the effort of a very small country with a very small rugby interest ... it was the fight of the lion and the mouse and I think Uruguay did some very good things, tackled with a very good effort, with courage."

Diego AGUIRRE (URU) - Captain

"We win one match (against Georgia) but I think we have to keep working and try to improve our rugby."
